USING A CREDIT CARD.

Credit cards can be awesome – you can use them to buy stuff, withdraw money from an ABM and make balance transfers. But if you don't use them right, you may run into some headaches. Here are a few tips to help you avoid problems:

  • Pay on time: Late or missed payments don't just mean extra fees – they can hurt your credit score.
  • Pay at least the minimum every month: This shows that you're a responsible borrower.
  • Avoid interest: You can do this by paying your full balance on time every month.
  • Stay within your credit limit: This can vary from card to card, but if you go over the limit your card provider has given you, there's a good chance you'll see some extra charges.
  • Avoid cash withdrawals: You may be charged at a higher interest rate for cash withdrawals made with your card. You may also be charged daily interest and a cash withdrawal fee even if you pay your balance in full each month.

Follow these few handy tips and you and your credit card will get along just fine.
